Premante Review: Priyadarshini–Anandi’s Love Story Lacks Thrill and Strong Execution

Among the five movies that hit theatres this week, Love Story featuring Priyadarshini and Anandi has drawn attention. Directed by debutant Navneet Ram, the film includes notable roles by Suma Kanakala, Vennela Kishore, and Kireeti Damaraju. Marketed with the tagline “Thrill-U-Praptirastu,” the film promises excitement, but does it truly deliver? Here’s the review.

Story

Madhusudhan, also known as Madi (played by Priyadarshini), works as a security system manager. However, he leads a double life—he secretly steals to support his parents, believing it is his responsibility to take care of them.

During a wedding, he meets Ramya (Anandi), who craves thrill in everything she does. Their personalities click instantly, and despite their contrasting approaches to life, their families approve, leading to marriage.

A few days into their married life, Ramya discovers the truth about her husband’s hidden profession. She witnesses the darker side of his life—the part he had kept away from her. Unexpectedly, Ramya herself encourages him to continue stealing. Why did she push him back into crime? How does their marriage change after this? Does Ramya get the “thrill factor” she always wanted? And how does Police Head Constable Asha Mary (Suma Kanakala) become tangled in their lives? These questions form the heart of the plot.

Analysis

The film revolves around how people change before and after marriage, and how relationships shift when expectations don’t match reality. The director attempts to blend emotions, humour, and suspense to create an engaging drama.

The movie starts on a lively note with wedding celebrations and a cheerful honeymoon phase. Ramya’s doubts begin once she starts noticing things around her, and the tension rises until the point where the hero reveals his real occupation. After this reveal, the narrative loses its momentum.

In the second half, the storyline becomes less convincing—especially the part where Ramya urges her husband to return to theft despite both being well-educated and capable of earning through legitimate means. The investigation portions led by Suma Kanakala as Asha Mary feel stretched and disrupt the pacing.

The emotional conflict between Madi and Ramya is handled well, but the film misses out on using Priyadarshini’s natural comedic skills. The humour feels underdeveloped, and many scenes, especially in the latter part, become predictable. Despite having strong actors like Hyper Aadi, Auto Ramprasad, and Vennela Kishore, the writing does not provide them impactful scenes. While the core story is decent, the execution falls short.

Performances & Technical Aspects

Priyadarshini portrays Madi convincingly, though his trademark humour doesn’t shine. Anandi delivers a solid performance as Ramya, effectively expressing emotional conflict and intensity. Their on-screen chemistry works well.

Supporting comedians fail to leave a major impression due to weak character writing.

On the technical side, the production quality is commendable. Producers Pushkur Ram Mohan Rao and Janhvi Narang have invested well. Viswanath Reddy’s cinematography and Leon James’ background score elevate the film, with two songs standing out. However, editor Raghavendra Thirun could have trimmed the second half for better impact.

Those expecting a fresh romantic drama based on the title may walk out disappointed.
