Disney's highly anticipated Moana 2 is set to hit theaters on November 27. The makers have recently released a sneak peek on September 26, offering fans a glimpse of the sequel along with a new song, "We’re Back." This installment reunites beloved characters Moana, voiced by Auli‘i Cravalho, and Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, as they embark on a new adventure with a fresh team of explorers.
After receiving a mysterious message from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana sets out on a daring journey across the vast seas of Oceania with a crew of unlikely seafarers. This adventure is unlike any she's faced before, as she seeks answers from her ancestors through dangerous, uncharted waters.
In the preview, a more seasoned Moana expresses her new purpose, stating, “The ancestors called on me to reconnect our people across the entire ocean. It’s my job as Wayfinder to finish what has started. It will be harder than anything we have faced before." The song "We’re Back" emphasizes Moana’s determination, featuring lyrics like, “Oh, finally, we’re back/ To who we’re meant to be."
Cravalho performed the song live earlier this year at Disney’s D23 event.
Alongside Cravalho and Johnson, Moana 2 will bring back familiar voices, including Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger as Sina. New cast members include HualÄlai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele, and Loto, respectively. Awhimai Fraser portrays the mysterious Matangi, while Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa. Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda makes her franchise debut as the voice of Simba.
Originally intended as a Disney+ series due to pandemic-related restrictions, Moana 2 has now been reimagined as a theatrical release. A live-action version of the first Moana film is also planned for 2026.
