Sanjay Dutt signs another role in 'Munna Bhai MBBS' Things change with Shahrukh's exit

Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra has recently explained how Sanjay Dutt's role in the 2003 film 'Munna Bhai MBBS' turned around and revived his sinking career. The film crew said that Dutt is eager to work after his release from jail. He was ready to do any role and agreed to play the role of cancer patient Zaheer, which was later played by Jimmy Shergill.

However, due to differences with Shah Rukh Khan, Dutt had to play the role of Munna Bhai. In a conversation at the Kellogg Management School, Chopra said he was not familiar with Sanjay Dutt. However, he announced a film with him after the entire industry banned him after he was arrested for possessing illegal weapons during the 1992 Bombay blasts.

 I don't know him. Not at all. But I thought it was very wrong for the entire film industry to ban him. I said, 'That's wrong because he's innocent until proven guilty. How can you do that?  So I went to Sunil Dutt and said 'I will announce a film with Sanjay'.

He warned me that the Producers Guild would ban me, but I said, 'I don't care because what they're doing is wrong. That's why I announced the film.

'Munna Bhai MBBS' was one of the biggest hits of 2003. Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt also acted in the sequel of this movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. It was also a commercial success after its release in 2006.
