Writer Gulzar thanked for the Jnanpeeth Award

The central government recently honored legendary poet and lyricist Gulzar with the Jnanpeeth Award. On this occasion, he recently shared a video message thanking his fans. "I would like to thank all those who have selected me for the Jnanpeeth Award and all those who are listening to my poetry and Shayari in Urdu," he said.
Expressing his happiness, the noted lyricist said, "Maybe because of cinema, music, people don't know about listening to poetry and Shayari. But, when the Jnanpeeth Award was announced, I felt that people were eager to listen to Urdu poetry and shayari. I felt very happy," he said. According to the selection committee, the 58th Jnanpeeth Award for the year 2023 has been awarded to Gulzar for Urdu and Swami Rambhadracharya for Sanskrit.
Awards in Gulzar's career
Sampooran Singh Kalra popularly known as Gulzar is one of the greatest Urdu poets of India. He started his career with music director SD Burman in 1963, apart from being a lyricist, he also directed films like Gulzar Mausam and the TV show Mirza Ghalib.
He has received numerous awards including five National Film Awards, 22 Filmfare Awards, one Academy Award (2008), and one Grammy Award (2010). Padma Bhushan in 2004 and Dadasaheb Phalke in 2013. He also received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. He also wrote a song for a Pakistani drama called Shehryar Shehzadi. Teri Raja song sung by Rekha Bhardwaj.
