Last year's controversial movie 'The Kerala Story' is once again in the news. The film, which is based on the theme of religious conversions and the rise of extremist ideology in Kerala, has collected huge collections. The film was supported by Hindu organizations along with the BJP, but the opposition parties, including the Congress, strongly opposed it. Especially the Communist parties accused it as a propaganda film. There was a lot of opposition to this movie in Kerala.
Recently this movie is going to be telecast on Doordarshan (DD). However, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan condemned Doordarshan's decision to telecast the film.DD was asked to withdraw the screening of the film as it would aggravate communal tensions ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He asked them not to become a 'propaganda machine' for BJP and RSS.
He tweeted that Kerala will stand firm in opposing such ill-intentioned attempts to fuel hatred.DD has decided to promote the film on April 5. The court said that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had examined the film and found it fit for screening. The trailer was controversial for showing 32,000 women from Kerala being converted and forced into extremism.
