Known for her memorable roles in hit films like "Swayamvaram," "Hanuman Junction," "Amoraru," and "Missamma," Laya has acted in around 40 films across multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. After taking a break from the industry following her marriage in 2006 and relocating to America, she has now made a comeback to Telugu cinema.

In the upcoming film "Thammudu," produced by Dil Raju and directed by Venu Sriram, Laya will be making her re-entry into Telugu cinema. She will portray the role of Nithin's elder sister, with Sapthami Gowda and Varsha Bollamma playing the heroines. As Laya returns to the silver screen, she has been sharing captivating anecdotes about her life in various interviews.

During a recent fun program with Ali, Laya disclosed that she is a former national chess champion. She reminisced about her childhood, mentioning that she learned chess from Koneru Hampi's father. Laya revealed that she participated in the National Chess Championship seven times, winning once. It is indeed remarkable to discover that Laya, known for her acting prowess, also excelled in chess at the national level.
