Apple iPhone 18 Pro showing smaller Dynamic Island concept design
Cupertino: Apple is reportedly exploring notable design refinements for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, with fresh leaks indicating that the company is testing a smaller version of its signature Dynamic Island feature.
According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Apple is currently evaluating two separate display designs for the iPhone 18 Pro. While one prototype retains the existing display layout, the other introduces a significantly reduced “Mini Dynamic Island.”
This reduction is believed to be achieved by integrating certain Face ID components beneath the display. If implemented, the Dynamic Island could shrink by approximately 35 percent compared to the current iPhone 17 Pro models.
However, sources suggest that Apple has not yet finalised the design. The company is reportedly conducting A/B testing between the two display options, leaving open the possibility that the current design may be retained if manufacturing or usability considerations prevail.
On the rear, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to follow Apple’s iterative design approach. The device will likely retain the familiar rectangular camera module seen in previous generations, though minor refinements in materials, finish, and colour variants could be introduced.
These developments align with earlier reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who indicated that Apple is working on a redesigned Dynamic Island that would be smaller in size compared to existing models.
The Dynamic Island, first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series in September 2022, replaced the traditional notch design and has since seen gradual refinements. While Apple has reduced its size incrementally over successive generations, the iPhone 18 Pro could mark one of the most noticeable changes yet.
Previous leaks suggest that the Dynamic Island may shrink from approximately 20.7mm in current models to around 13.49mm in the upcoming devices, reinforcing claims of a roughly 35 percent reduction.
As Apple continues to refine its design strategy, the final decision is expected to be revealed closer to the official launch.
