FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA The Road Warrior Movie Review and Ratings
Mad Max 2 [released in the United States as The Road Warrior) is a film of pure action, kinetic energy organized around the bones of a plot.

It has a vision of a violent future world but doesn't develop that vision with characters and dialogue. It stands as one of the most aggressive films ever made. Came out of Mad Max 2 slightly dizzy and my ears still ringing from the roar of the soundtrack; I can't say I enjoyed the movie, but I can't forget it. The film is set in a future where civilization has collapsed, the world is in anarchy and violence, and looters are killing each other for the few remaining reserves of petrol.

These future warrior vehicles are leftovers from the world we live in now. There are familiar motorcycles and semi-trailer trucks and oil tankers from the highways of 1982, but also strange customized racing cars, the most terrifying of which have two steel poles in front, to which enemies can be tied (if the car crashes, the enemies die first). The road warriors of the title take their costumes and code of conduct from the great sellers of myths, legends and genres: they look and act like Hell's Angels, samurai warriors, kamikaze pilots, street gang members, cowboys, policemen and race drivers. They don't talk at all; Max, the hero of that movie, has maybe two hundred words.

Max is played by Australian actor Mel Gibson who starred in Gallipoli. Before that he produced Mad Max for the makers of Mad Max 2 and that film was a low-budget foreshadowing of this extreme display of action and violence. A heroic cowboy acts like Max in Mad Max 2.He attacks a small group of people trying to protect their petrol supply from the attacks of the warriors who surround them. Max volunteers to drive a tanker full of gasoline through the surrounding warriors and take it a few hundred miles to the coast, where they all hope to find safety. After this background is established with so much symbolism, ritual, and violence (and sometimes so few words that we have to guess what's going on), the film gets to its true heart.
The set piece in Mad Max 2 is an incredibly well-sustained chase sequence that lasts until the final third of the film, as Max and his semi-trailer barbarians run through everything the barbarians throw at them. Director George Miller compared this chase sequence to Buster Keaton's The General, and I can see why. While The General is humorous, it's also exciting, as Keaton, playing the engineer of a speeding locomotive, runs endless variations on the basic possibilities of two trains and several sets of railroad tracks.
Mad Max 2 basically has a truck and a road. Pursuers and defenders have a variety of cars and trucks to chase or defend the lead truck, and the whole chase continues at breakneck speed as quasi-gladiators jump from one racing truck to another in the air, often without being crushed under the wheels. The special effects and stunts in this movie are amazing. Truck chases in Mad Max 2, Bullet, The French Connection, and Raiders of the Lost Ark are among the greatest chase films of modern years.
