Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Parashurama in Ramayana film
Mumbai: The much-anticipated film Ramayana, directed by Nitish Tiwari, continues to generate significant buzz since its announcement. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the project has quickly become one of the most talked-about productions in Indian cinema.
Following the release of its teaser, which received a positive response, Ranbir Kapoor recently revealed a key detail about his role in the film. The actor confirmed that he will be portraying dual characters—Lord Rama as well as Parashurama.
Speaking about the experience, Ranbir stated that Parashurama, known as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is a deeply spiritual and complex character. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to portray both roles, emphasizing that such performances demand not only physical transformation but also a profound understanding of the characters’ emotional and spiritual depth. He further revealed that he spent nearly a year studying and preparing for these roles before the commencement of shooting.
Meanwhile, another development related to the film has gained attention on social media. Reports suggest that producer Namit Malhotra declined a massive OTT deal reportedly valued at ₹1000 crore for the film’s two parts. According to industry sources, the decision was strategic, with the producer aiming to finalize digital rights deals separately after the theatrical release, following a structured distribution approach.
The film is being mounted on an unprecedented budget of approximately ₹4000 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced. The shooting of the first installment has already been completed, with extensive VFX work currently in progress.
The ensemble cast includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Additionally, Lara Dutta will portray Kaikeyi, while Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as Shurpanakha.
The first part of Ramayana is scheduled for release during Diwali this year, while the second installment is expected to hit theatres during Diwali 2027.
