Sonu Sood Opens Up About Political Offers
Sonu Sood, who has earned a special recognition in both South Indian and Bollywood films, has established himself as a real-life hero despite portraying villainous roles on-screen. During the COVID-19 crisis, when no one else stepped forward, he did remarkable deeds, helping migrant workers stranded in various states by personally arranging their return to their hometowns at his own expense. His acts of kindness made headlines every day, and many people who received his help named their children after him. Several political leaders also praised his service on social media, and some state governors honored him. At the same time, rumors started circulating that Sonu Sood was planning to enter politics.
In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Sonu Sood opened up about the political offers he had received. He revealed that he was offered positions as Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister, and several national-level political leaders had asked him to join politics and contest elections. He also mentioned that there was an offer from a party to make him a Member of Rajya Sabha. However, Sonu did not disclose which party or which leader had extended these offers.
Sonu Sood explained why he decided not to enter politics, saying, "Politics is about power and money for many people, but I have no interest in either. I am already helping people, and I don’t have to answer to anyone. I have no boundaries, but in politics, I would have to answer to someone and be controlled. I don't like that." Even though Sonu Sood chose not to contest elections himself, he supported his sister's candidature in the Punjab Assembly elections, where she contested as a Congress party candidate. He campaigned for her, but unfortunately, his sister did not win the election. The AAP candidate emerged victorious in the Punjab elections, leading to a shift in power as Congress lost and AAP came to power.
