Malayalam Director Shafi Passes Away At 56

Shafi, Renowned Malayalam Director, Passes Away After Stroke

Malayalam director Shafi, known for his iconic comedy films, passed away on Saturday night at the age of 56. He had been hospitalized in Kochi a week earlier after suffering a severe stroke, undergoing brain surgery, but remained in critical condition. Colleagues like Mammootty, director B Unnikrishnan, and producer Anto Joseph visited him during his hospital stay.

Shafi, the younger brother of writer-director Rafi, began his career in 2001 with One Man Show. He went on to direct several hit films such as Kalyanaraman (2002), Pulival Kalyanam (2003), Mayavi (2007), Chocolate (2007), and Two Countries (2015). His films were known for their memorable comic timing and humor, often collaborating with writers like Rafi-Mecartin and Benny P Nayarambalam. Even after years, his works remain popular in the Malayalam meme culture.

Shafi's passing leaves a significant void in the Malayalam film industry, which has already been struggling with a lack of quality comedy. His legacy continues to evoke laughter and fond memories for his fans.
