Marco TV Broadcast Blocked By CBFC, OTT Release Under Scrutiny

Marco Faces Broadcast Ban: CBFC Blocks TV Screening, OTT Removal Likely Amid Rising Violence Concerns

The CBFC has banned the television broadcast of the Malayalam film Marco due to excessive violence. The board has raised concerns about the film’s availability on OTT platforms, seeking the Centre's intervention to possibly restrict its digital release as well.

According to CBFC Regional Officer Nadeem Thufali, the film was given an 'A' (Adults Only) certification, and while the board’s role is to certify films, it has deemed Marco unsuitable for family viewing. Consequently, it rejected the film’s satellite rights for TV broadcast. The ban follows growing concerns about violence in media, which Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recently warned could contribute to rising crime rates in the state.

Directed by Haneef Adeni, Marco, starring Unni Mukundan, became the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film despite the controversy surrounding its violent content.
