Kamal Haasan's Rajya Sabha Bid Sparks Kannada Controversy

Film star Kamal Haasan is set to enter the Rajya Sabha. It is reported that he has expressed interest in joining the upper house of Parliament. With the support of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the actor Kamal has a chance to secure a seat in the Rajya Sabha. The Makkal Needhi Maiam party has also passed a resolution to send Kamal Haasan to the upper house. Meanwhile, a recent comment made by Kamal has stirred controversy.

Kamal Haasan made a controversial statement claiming that the Kannada language originated from Tamil. Speaking at the audio launch event of his film "Thala Life" held in Chennai, he said, "My life and my family are Tamil." He further mentioned, "Actor Shivarajkumar is a family member living in another state, which is why he is here today. That is why I began my speech by saying my life and family are Tamil. Your language (Kannada) has its origins from Tamil. In that way, you are a partner," referring to Shivarajkumar.

However, Kamal's comment that Kannada originated from Tamil has angered Kannada organizations. In Bengaluru, protesters tore down banners of the movie "Thala Life." They raised slogans like, "You want to do business in Karnataka, but do you disrespect the Kannada language?" expressing their discontent over his remarks.
