Amitabh Begins Kalki 2898 AD: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has commenced shooting for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD in Hyderabad. The actor informed fans through his official blog that he would be unable to attend his customary Sunday meet-and-greet outside his residence due to professional commitments.
Amitabh Bachchan is known for greeting admirers outside his Mumbai home every Sunday. However, this week, he prioritised filming responsibilities for the much-anticipated sequel. Despite his prior announcement, a large number of fans gathered outside his residence, prompting the actor to express gratitude and affection toward them.
Sharing behind-the-scenes images from the set, Bachchan revealed his transformation into the character Ashwatthama. He also posted a photograph with Kamal Haasan, marking their reunion on screen after more than three decades. The two last collaborated in the 1985 film Geraftaar.
In his note, Bachchan apologised to fans for his absence, stating that work commitments required his presence in Hyderabad. He also expressed happiness about collaborating once again with Kamal Haasan, describing the reunion as special.In the first instalment of Kalki 2898 AD, Bachchan portrayed Ashwatthama, earning widespread acclaim for his performance. Although Kamal Haasan appeared in the original film, the two actors did not share screen space. The sequel is expected to bring their characters together more prominently.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the second instalment will reportedly focus more extensively on the arcs of Karna and Ashwatthama, with Prabhas playing a central role. Reports suggest that Deepika Padukone, who featured prominently in the first part, may not appear in the sequel.
The first film emerged as a major commercial success, collecting approximately Rs 1,042 crore worldwide. With renewed collaborations and expanded character narratives, expectations remain high for the sequel.
