Jr NTR Delhi High Court order
Jr NTR has received significant legal relief from the Delhi High Court, which has ruled in favour of protecting his personality, name, and publicity rights. The court observed that any unauthorised use of his name, identity, or image for commercial purposes would invite legal action, including proceedings for defamation.
In recent years, several film personalities have faced increased online harassment and misuse of their images, particularly with the growing use of artificial intelligence. AI-generated videos, morphed images, and voice cloning have been widely circulated on social media platforms, often in a derogatory or misleading manner. Concerned over the damage to reputation and dignity, many celebrities have approached courts seeking legal safeguards for their personal and professional identities.
Jr NTR approached the Delhi High Court requesting protection of his personality and campaign rights. After hearing the matter, the court passed a key order restraining individuals and entities from using his name, image, voice, or likeness without authorisation.
The court specifically prohibited the commercial use of names and titles associated with the actor, including NTR, Jr NTR, Tarak, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, Man of Masses, and Young Tiger, without his consent. It clarified that violations could attract action under the Copyright Act and the Trade Marks Act.
Additionally, the court directed that any existing content that is offensive, defamatory, or created using morphed or AI-generated visuals of the actor must be taken down immediately. The court made it clear that the unauthorised manipulation or use of Jr NTR’s photographs or identity for commercial gain would not be tolerated. The order is expected to curb online trolling and misuse of the actor’s image following its enforcement.
