Supreme Court Grants Interim Relief To Actor Mohan Babu In Journalist Attack Case

Mohan Babu Receives Protection From Arrest in Journalist Assault Case

The Supreme Court has granted interim protection to actor Mohan Babu, halting any coercive action against him in a case where he is accused of attacking a journalist. The Court's order followed Babu's challenge to the Telangana High Court's dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea. The incident in question occurred when the journalist, who works with TV9, visited Babu's house at the request of his son, Manchu Manoj. The actor allegedly assaulted the reporter by grabbing his microphone and striking him.

While the Telangana High Court had earlier noted serious allegations, Mohan Babu’s lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi, argued against the need for custodial interrogation. The actor, aged 76, denied threatening the journalist or interfering with the investigation. The journalist had suffered a fractured jaw and claimed he was attacked despite being younger than the actor.

Babu expressed his willingness to apologize and compensate the journalist for the incident, which he described as a momentary outburst. The Court instructed the opposing counsel to discuss possible compensation while granting Babu interim relief. The case will be listed again in four weeks.
