The Telangana Film Exhibitors Association expressed concern that fluctuating movie ticket prices were troubling the average moviegoer. The government of Telangana recently decided not to allow any increase in ticket prices for benefit shows or special screenings. This decision was welcomed by exhibitors in Andhra Pradesh as well. The meeting held on Monday discussed several issues, and the association shared their thoughts with the media. They mentioned that it was distressing when ticket prices were raised just to extract maximum revenue from the audience, especially when it’s the youth, college students, and fans who watch movies in the initial days of release.
The Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) Chairman, Dil Raju, was requested to ensure that the ticket prices remain fixed for all films. The association welcomed the decision made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy, who addressed these concerns. They criticized the high ticket prices, such as the ₹1200 charges for premiere shows, and pointed out that such decisions were harmful for single-screen theaters, as it reduces the audience turnout. Some exhibitors from Andhra Pradesh and producers have supported the government's decision, stating that it has revitalized single-screen theaters for another four years.
The exhibitors also demanded that there should be no increase in ticket prices for benefit shows, arguing that producers justify the hikes by citing higher production costs. However, occupancy in theaters is declining. They also presented a petition to the Andhra Pradesh government, urging them to reconsider high ticket rates for benefit shows. The exhibitors highlighted that the increased ticket prices are burdening the audience, especially when middle-budget films are struggling due to the high rates. They stressed that lower ticket prices would attract more viewers, and the lack of affordable options is causing a decline in theater attendance, especially for smaller films.
