Mithra Mandali Review: Does This Comedy Truly Make You Laugh?

Mithra Mandali: The film Mitra Mandali premiered on Thursday as a youthful comedy entertainer. Fans are eager to see if it lives up to the hype.
The name 'Allied Council' has been trending widely on social media recently. Interest in the film has grown with the addition of Instagram star Niharika.nm, joining a young comedy ensemble featuring Priyadarshi, Vishnu, Rag Mayur, and Prasad Behera. The movie is directed by Vijender, known for his connection to Jathi Ratnalu, and produced by Kalyan Manthina, Bhanu Prathapa, and Dr. Vijender Reddy. Promotions ahead of release suggested that the film promises laughter—but does it truly deliver?
Story (Mithra Mandali Story)
Narayana (played by VT Ganesh) is a man known as the “tiger” of the Tutte caste in his small jungle town. He is determined to make his caste dominant and holds a deep opposition to inter-caste marriages. Narayana aims to become an MLA leveraging his caste’s influence. However, things take a turn when his daughter (Niharika) escapes from home. SI Sagar (Vennela Kishore) tries to investigate, fearing the caste’s reputation could be tarnished if the truth comes out.
The story also follows a group of carefree friends—Chaitanya (Priyadarshi), Satwik (Vishnu O.I.), Abhi (Rag Mayur), and Rajiv (Prasad Behera). Why did Narayana’s daughter run away? Did she cause trouble for the four friends? Ultimately, will Narayana achieve his political ambitions? These questions drive the narrative.
After Jathi Ratnalu, Telugu cinema has seen multiple films centered on three or four friends, mixing humor and emotion. Allied Council doesn’t fit neatly into these categories. Despite promotional claims that “laughter starts from the minute you enter the theater,” the film struggles to deliver consistent humor. Fictional caste dynamics and forced comedy create more headaches than laughs for viewers, though the second half fares slightly better than the first. While some scenes are amusing, most feel strained or awkward.
Performances and Technical Aspects
Actors Priyadarshi, Rag Mayur, Vishnu, and Prasad Behera are talented and have proven themselves in previous projects. In Mitra Mandali, their characters are adequately portrayed, with Satya’s timing standing out. Vennela Kishore’s role, however, is minimal and underutilized. VT Ganesh, a highly anticipated actor in Telugu cinema, disappoints with this film.
Niharika NM, popular for her Instagram content, makes her Telugu film debut here. However, her performance does not match her social media fame, which is a significant drawback for the movie. Brahmanandam delivers a memorable appearance in a song, and production values are solid, but the overall impact is lacking.
No matter how talented the cast is, weak storytelling and mismanaged narratives can undermine their efforts—and that is the case here. Many directors are attempting to replicate the success of Anudeep’s Jathi Ratnalu without capturing its essence. The film lacks the star presence that makes a story engaging. Even the director’s dialogues, like “They are my sons,” feel repetitive over the two-hour runtime.
Another point to note: Bunny Vasu, the film’s presenter, recently mentioned that some critics were trolling him and the film. After watching Mitra Mandali, it seems that the film itself doesn’t warrant much reaction. Audiences going in with high expectations for continuous laughs may leave disappointed.
