Reliance: Jio Takes Another Strategic Step as Mukesh Ambani Emerges in Healthcare
Mumbai, Maharashtra: Following the passing of Dhirubhai Ambani, the vast Reliance business group was divided into two separate streams. Mukesh Ambani assumed control of core industrial segments including crude oil processing and petrochemicals, while Anil Ambani managed businesses related to telecommunications, electricity, and financial services. Over the years, Anil Ambani’s enterprises struggled with mounting financial challenges, whereas Mukesh Ambani steadily strengthened his market position by expanding into multiple new industries.
Jio-style transformation in genetic diagnostics
Reliance Industries has consistently worked toward reviving legacy brands and assets. Its investment in Udyam Dal in Tamil Nadu and the relaunch of the SIL brand highlight this strategy. Now, Mukesh Ambani is directing attention toward the healthcare sector, with a special focus on medical diagnostics. The company aims to tap into India’s rapidly expanding demand for genetic testing services.
Affordable genetic testing for personalized healthcare
Reliance plans to introduce genetic testing services at a price as low as Rs 1,000, compared to the current market rate of approximately Rs 10,000. Similar to how Jio reshaped the telecom industry in 2016 by offering low-cost access, Reliance is now working to make advanced genetic testing widely available to the general public.
Genetic tests analyze blood, saliva, or other biological samples to assess a person’s likelihood of developing certain medical conditions. This information plays a key role in enabling personalized healthcare solutions. By significantly reducing costs, Reliance aims to allow millions of individuals across the country to benefit from these advanced medical services.
