Sarees Get Global Recognition: 500 Women Display Sarees Of Different Styles At Times Square

Hundreds of women dressed in sarees showcased the beauty, heritage and cultural diversity of sarees at a special event at New York's iconic Times Square to showcase the saree's global identity. In this, women from about 9 countries along with women of Indian American community participated.

The 'Saree Goes Global' event at Times Square on Saturday saw the participation of more than 500 women from nine countries, including the Indian community, where saree is a popular garment. These countries include Bangladesh, Nepal, Britain, America, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Trinidad and Guyana along with India.
'British Women in Sarees' and an organisation called Uma showcased the saree
During the event, women dressed in colourful sarees with exquisite embroidery and styles on a variety of fabrics including khadi showcased their collection. They waved the national flag, danced together and shared pictures of it on various social media, talking about the beauty of the saree and its cultural identity. The event was organised by British Women in Saree in association with Uma organisation.
