A video shared on Instagram by gastroenterologist Dr Shubham Vats recently went viral, where he compared the nutritional profiles of paneer and cheese. In the video, Dr Vats explains that cheese has not been widely accepted as a healthy food primarily due to poor marketing, which has associated it mainly with fast food rather than balanced diets.
Protein and Calorie Comparison:
According to Dr Vats, 100 grams of paneer contains approximately 18 grams of protein and around 250 calories. In contrast, 100 grams of unprocessed cheese provides nearly 25 grams of protein but comes with a higher calorie count of about 400 calories. Cheese also contains more fat, with roughly 33 grams per 100 grams, compared to paneer’s 20 grams.

While cheese offers higher protein content, its increased fat and calorie levels make it suitable for specific dietary goals. Paneer is considered a better option for individuals aiming for weight loss or calorie control. On the other hand, cheese can be beneficial for those looking to gain weight or increase protein intake. Experts advise including either paneer or cheese in the diet based on individual health requirements and fitness objectives.
