Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift Revealed With Illuminated Grille, MB.OS, Euro 7 Engines

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the most extensive mid-cycle update ever for its flagship S-Class, introducing bold design enhancements, a new digital operating system, Euro 7-ready powertrains and next-generation safety technologies. Marking 140 years since Carl Benz invented the automobile, the updated W223 S-Class reinforces its position as the technological benchmark in the luxury saloon segment.

The facelift brings a more assertive exterior design while preserving the model’s signature elegance. The front grille has been enlarged by around 20 per cent and, for the first time, can be specified with illumination. Chrome three-dimensional Mercedes star elements enhance depth, while the iconic bonnet-mounted star can also be illuminated, forming part of the vehicle’s night-time lighting signature.

DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps now feature a new twin-star daytime running light motif and advanced micro-LED technology, offering up to 40 per cent higher illumination with improved energy efficiency. The ULTRA RANGE high beam extends visibility up to 600 metres and dynamically adapts to traffic and road conditions using camera and navigation data.

At the rear, redesigned LED taillamps incorporate triple-star elements framed in chrome, strengthening the S-Class visual identity. New 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels produced using high-pressure casting technology deliver sharper detailing and reduced material thickness. The MANUFAKTUR customisation programme has also been expanded with new shimmering and matte paint finishes.

Inside, the S-Class receives its most significant transformation with the introduction of the MBUX Superscreen. This continuous glass surface integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display, creating a more immersive and technology-focused cabin environment without compromising luxury.

The fourth-generation MBUX system operates on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), enabling AI-driven interactions through ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing. The “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant now supports multi-turn conversations, short-term memory and animated avatars, delivering a more intuitive and personalised user experience.

Rear-seat comfort remains a highlight, particularly in the long-wheelbase version. Optional first-class rear seating adds fold-out tables, a refrigerated compartment, temperature-controlled cupholders and 13.1-inch entertainment screens with integrated cameras for video conferencing. New detachable rear-seat controllers replace the previous tablet interface for improved usability.

Powertrain options continue to include petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants, all updated to meet upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards. Each engine is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system featuring a 17kW integrated starter generator for smoother performance and improved efficiency. Plug-in hybrid versions now offer an electric-only range of up to 100 kilometres.

Safety and driver assistance technologies have also been comprehensively upgraded. The new S-Class features an advanced sensor suite supported by high-performance computing under MB.OS. Standard MB.DRIVE ASSIST includes adaptive cruise control and lane assistance, while advanced systems enable enhanced evasive manoeuvres, assisted driving and improved parking functionality in select markets.
