Dhurandhar 2 Ban Plea in Tamil Nadu Before Elections: Court Seeks Petition

Dhurandhar 2 film controversy Tamil Nadu elections court case

Chennai: The film Dhurandhar: The Revenge has come under legal scrutiny in Tamil Nadu ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, 2026. A petition has been moved in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the film’s screening during the election period.

The petitioner argued that the film’s content has the potential to influence voters and could impact the fairness of the electoral process. According to the plea, the narrative appears to promote a specific political perspective, which may shape public opinion during a sensitive time.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, Dhurandhar 2 has been performing well at the box office. However, it has simultaneously drawn criticism from certain quarters over its perceived political undertones.

Some critics have suggested that the film reflects a strong ideological stance, with a few even comparing its messaging to that of a large-scale political campaign.

The matter was heard by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan. The bench did not grant an immediate stay on the film’s release or screening.

Instead, the court directed the petitioner to file a formal and properly structured plea. The case is expected to be taken up again once the required legal procedures are completed.

A prompt hearing is likely after the submission of the revised petition. The final ruling will determine whether any restrictions will be imposed on the film during the election period.

As of now, Dhurandhar 2 continues its theatrical run, while the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
