Parvathy Slams Kerala Govt Over Hema Report Delay

Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu expressed serious anger at the Kerala government. She criticized the government for delaying the implementation of the Hema Committee report, which was submitted about five and a half years ago to address the issues and sexual harassment faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.

After the assault on a Malayalam actress in 2017, the Kerala government appointed a committee under Justice Hema to study the working conditions and safety of women in the film industry. This committee submitted its report in 2019, highlighting serious issues like sexual harassment, discrimination, and lack of proper facilities.

However, the government has shown little interest in implementing the report, according to several critics. Frustrated by this, Parvathy indirectly criticized Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan via her Instagram stories, tagging him and asking sarcastically, "Can we now remember why the Hema Committee was formed? Wasn't it to create policies and regulations for the film industry? What happened to them? No urgency? It's only been five and a half years since the report!" Her remarks have gained attention, especially with reports that the police might soon close some of the cases based on the report. Parvathy, along with organizations like Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), continues to demand the full implementation of the Hema Committee recommendations and stronger safety policies for women in the industry.
