35 Chinna Katha Kaadu, directed by first-time filmmaker Nanda Kishore Emani, is set in the quaint town of Tirupati and follows the life of a middle-class family. The film revolves around Saraswathi (played by Nivetha Thomas), her husband Vishwa Prasad (Vishwadev Rachakonda), and their two children, Arun and Varun. While the narrative appears to be about mathematics, it transcends this subject to explore family dynamics, education, and personal growth.

The story focuses on Arun, the eldest son, who is a curious child struggling with the logic of mathematics. His frustration with math, especially with concepts like the value of zero, becomes a point of conflict. The film beautifully captures the clash between a child's innocent logic and the rigidity of the educational system, as exemplified by Arun's tense relationship with his math teacher, Chanakya, played by Priyadarshi. Chanakya’s character, cold and focused on results, serves as a reminder of how some educators reduce students to mere numbers.

The film takes a refreshing approach to parenting, showcasing Saraswathi and Vishwa Prasad as empathetic parents who support Arun’s inquisitiveness. Vishwa’s subtle commentary on bribing for grades adds a layer of morality to his character. Meanwhile, Nivetha Thomas shines as a mother who defies her husband's rigid views, evolving as a character who will go to great lengths for her child’s success.

Cinematographer Niketh Bommi and production designer Latha Naidu effectively capture the essence of a middle-class Brahmin household, while the cast's delivery of the Chittoor accent adds authenticity to the film. Vivek Sagar's musical score, blending classical and fusion elements, adds emotional depth to the story.

35 – Chinna Katha Kaadu shines through its simplicity and humanism, weaving together themes of mathematics, family, and learning. The film celebrates the beauty of questioning and growth, both in and out of the classroom.
