Mowgli Movie Review 2025: Roshan Kanakala’s Love Story with Karma Twist

Tollywood anchor Suma’s son, Roshan Kanakala, stars in his second film, Mowgli. The movie is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sandeep Raj and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Kriti Prasad under the People Media Factory banner. Sakshi Madolkar plays the female lead, while Bandi Saroj Kumar appears in a pivotal role. Today, December 13, the film hits the theaters. Let’s dive into what the movie offers.

Mowgli (Roshan Kanakala) is an orphan who has been living in a forest near Parvathipuram village. He dreams of becoming a police officer. Alongside his best friend Bunty (Viva Harsha), he assists in providing junior artists for film shoots. Mowgli himself performs dangerous stunt sequences for films. During this time, he develops feelings for Jasmith (Sakshi Madolkar), a side dancer on the film set. Jasmith is hearing-impaired and mute, yet she also reciprocates his feelings. Complications arise when SI Kryptofer Nolan (Bandi Saroj Kumar) becomes infatuated with Jasmith, intending to exploit her. How Mowgli protects Jasmith from Nolan’s advances, and the challenges he faces, tie into a broader theme exploring the theory of karma. To see how the story unfolds, viewers will have to watch the film.

The Storyline

Sandeep Raj, known for his past work in colorful, visually striking films, presents a pure, innocent love story here. The narrative is set against the backdrop of a film shoot. Introducing the concept of karma into this love story is a fresh attempt, though the rest of the plot follows familiar beats: the hero falls for the heroine, the villain pursues her obsessively, and ultimately, the hero confronts the antagonist. Many love stories have been told in similar ways, and Mowgli largely follows this familiar pattern. Watching it may remind audiences of earlier films like Colour Photo, Jayam, and Vaana Movies, though the visual treatment feels slightly refreshed.

The director introduces Bandi Saroj Kumar’s character in a powerful opening, portraying Nolan as dangerously obsessed with women in a single scene. Mowgli’s introductory scenes carry emotional depth. The romance between the leads is engaging, though some sequences feel prolonged. A pre-interval twist stands out, while the second half alternates between brisk storytelling and slower, drawn-out scenes. Scenes set in the police station are strong but occasionally overstretched. The climax ties in the karma theme effectively, with well-executed sequences.

Performances and Technical Aspects

Roshan Kanakala delivers a convincing performance as Mowgli, handling both emotional and action-packed scenes with maturity beyond his debut. Sakshi Madolkar impresses as the mute, deaf Jasmith, portraying vulnerability and affection convincingly. Bandi Saroj Kumar fulfills his role as the antagonist with adequate intensity. Viva Harsha adds humor while also contributing to the emotional moments. Supporting cast members perform their roles effectively.

Technically, the film is competent. Kalabhairava’s music enhances the mood, with the background score elevating specific scenes. The songs are satisfactory, cinematography is solid, editing is decent, and production values are high, matching the overall scale of the project.
