Indian heritage shapes USA Under-19 World Cup lineup
Bulawayo, Bulawayo Province, Zimbabwe: The United States has been placed in Group B along with the Under-19 teams of India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand for the World Cup.
The United States of America began its ICC Mens Under-19 World Cup journey against India on January 15 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The American squad is largely composed of players with Indian ancestry.
The team is led by Utkarsh Srivastava, who was born in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Other members of the squad include Advaith Krishna, Amrinder Gill, Ritvik Appidi, Amogh Arepally, Admit Jhamb, Adit Kappa, Arjun Mahesh, Rayaan Taj, Sabrish Prasad, Sahil Garg, Sahir Bhatia, Rishabh Shimpi, Shiv Shani, and Nitish Sudini.
While associate nation teams often feature athletes from varied ethnic backgrounds, nearly all 15 players in the USA Under-19 squad can trace their family origins back to India.
The United States is grouped in Group B alongside India Under-19, Bangladesh Under-19, and New Zealand Under-19.
In their opening match of the tournament, the USA suffered a six-wicket defeat to India in a rain-interrupted contest. Indias Henil Patel delivered a standout performance by claiming five wickets.
Before the match began, parents of several American players were seen singing Indias national anthem while draped in the United States flag. The moment beautifully reflected the cultural harmony and shared identity between the two nations.
