Virat Kohli Clarifies on Test Comeback Amid Stellar ODI Form
Recently, social media has been buzzing with speculation that Virat Kohli might return to Test cricket. However, after India’s ODI match in Ranchi, Kohli addressed these rumors directly.
Kohli displayed his batting mastery in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi, scoring an impressive 135 runs. India posted a commanding total of 349, with Kohli playing a key role in securing a 17-run victory over South Africa. During the third ODI of Australia’s tour, he once again showcased his classic style, remaining unbeaten on 78 runs. From the very first ball in the South Africa match, Kohli played aggressively, striking powerful shots and proving that he remains a formidable force on the field.
Amidst this, rumors circulated online about a possible return to Test cricket for the former captain. Kohli, however, put these speculations to rest. Following his century in Ranchi, where he was named ‘Player of the Match,’ he addressed the questions from commentators regarding his future in the longer format. He confirmed that he intends to focus on a single format, effectively ruling out a Test comeback for now.
Reflecting on his approach, Kohli said, “Over the past 16 years, I’ve played more than 300 ODIs, so I remain constantly engaged with the game. Practice sessions, even just a couple of hours in the nets, directly influence match performance. Being in form isn’t difficult when you consistently work on your skills. I aim to leverage all my experience, stay physically fit, and maintain mental readiness. My focus is on continuing in one format.”
Kohli’s statement ends the ongoing speculation and clarifies that he will continue to contribute to the Indian team, but strictly in limited-overs cricket for now.
