Mohammed Siraj injury update
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India: India have suffered a potential setback ahead of their crucial Super 8 encounter against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, currently being hosted in India.
Having topped Group A in the league stage with victories over the United States, Namibia, Pakistan and the Netherlands, India entered the Super 8 stage with strong momentum. The team is placed in Group 1 and is scheduled to face South Africa in their opening Super 8 fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday at 7 PM.
However, concerns have emerged from the Indian camp during practice sessions in Ahmedabad. Star pacer Mohammed Siraj reportedly sustained a blow to his left knee after being struck by a shot from all-rounder Hardik Pandya during nets. Siraj was forced to leave the training session midway following the incident.
Visuals circulating on social media show Siraj walking off the field, though he appeared composed despite the discomfort. The extent of the injury is yet to be officially confirmed by team management.
India have already been dealing with injury concerns in the tournament. Young fast bowler Harshit Rana was ruled out earlier due to injury, with Siraj being drafted into the squad as his replacement. Siraj featured in the group-stage match against the United States, where he impressed with three wickets.
Senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah had earlier missed a game due to fever but subsequently returned to the playing XI, pushing Siraj back to the bench. Additionally, opener Abhishek Sharma missed the Namibia match due to stomach issues, while all-rounder Washington Sundar has recently recovered from injury but is yet to cement his place in the final XI.
India are grouped alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe and the West Indies in the Super 8 stage. With a semi-final berth at stake, the team will be hoping for positive updates on Siraj’s fitness ahead of the high-stakes clash.
