T20 World Cup 2026: Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir claims India may not reach the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2026, sparking debate among fans and cricket experts.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has stirred controversy with strong remarks about India’s prospects in the T20 World Cup 2026. He stated that the Indian team is unlikely to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament.
With the Super 8 stage set to begin on February 21, eight teams remain in contention for the title. Amid the growing excitement, Amir, during a discussion on a Pakistan-based news channel, expressed doubts about India’s consistency.
According to Amir, India’s batting line-up has struggled in most league-stage matches, except for their performance against Pakistan. He argued that such inconsistency reduces their chances of advancing to the semi-finals. He further added that teams like South Africa national cricket team and West Indies cricket team are performing strongly and appear better positioned to secure semi-final berths.
However, other panelists disagreed with Amir’s assessment. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif expressed confidence in India’s chances and even predicted a possible India–Pakistan semi-final clash. Cricketer Ahmed Shehzad also opined that India and South Africa are likely to progress further in the tournament.
Notably, Amir was part of Pakistan’s title-winning squad in the ICC World Twenty20 2009. His recent remarks have triggered mixed reactions among Indian fans on social media. While some criticized his comments, others urged him to focus on Pakistan’s performance, recalling the team’s early exit in the previous edition after a defeat against the United States.
Amir had also recently made controversial comments regarding Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, further intensifying the debate.
