Diwali 2024 Date and Lakshmi Puja Timing Guide

Diwali 2024 date, timings

The festival occurs on the Amavasya Tithi in the month of Kartik. However, this year, there is confusion regarding whether to celebrate Diwali Pujan on October 31 or November 1.

Astrologer Vinod Soni Pauddar from Bhopal clarifies that Diwali is always celebrated on the night of Amavasya. This year, Amavasya begins on October 31 at 2:40 PM and lasts until the morning of November 1. He emphasizes that festivals are observed during Pradosh Kaal, and since Deepotsav is celebrated on Pradoshvaapini Amavasya Tithi, the Udaya Tithi is not relevant. Therefore, Diwali Puja should be performed on October 31, as celebrating on November 1 is not considered auspicious according to Shastra Samvat.

For Lakshmi Puja, the auspicious timing this year is from 5 PM to 10:30 PM on October 31. This day is particularly significant as Lakshmi ji is believed to have been born during the Samudra Manthan on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month.
