Khaleda Zia Calls for Unity and Respect in Bangladesh

Khaleda Zia first statement after release

Amid the recent violence in Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister and leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), addressed the nation for the first time following her release from jail. In a video message from her hospital bed, Zia praised the youth for making the "impossible possible" and urged the creation of a new Bangladesh that respects all religions and upholds democracy.

She highlighted the nation's transition from a "fascist government" and the importance of building a future of peace and prosperity. Zia, who was imprisoned in 2018 under Sheikh Hasina’s regime, was released after Hasina’s resignation and the formation of an interim government.
