Uzbekistan’s Chess Prodigy Javkhir Sindarov Makes History at 19

Panaji: Uzbekistan’s chess sensation Javkhir Sindarov has etched his name in history by winning the FIDE World Cup at just 19 years old. In the final match, Sindarov triumphed over 26-year-old Chinese Grandmaster Wei Yi with a score of 2.5-1.5, becoming the youngest-ever champion of the FIDE World Cup. This year, Divya Deshmukh, the Indian female chess player, also won the Women’s World Cup at the age of 19.

During the final, the first two games between Sindarov and Wei Yi ended in draws, pushing the match into a tiebreak. Sindarov secured victory in the second tiebreak game after drawing the first, clinching both the title and a trophy along with a cash prize. Both finalists, Sindarov and Wei Yi, have now qualified for the Candidates Tournament. Meanwhile, Telugu chess player Arjun Irigesi was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
