The Malaysia Open 2026 is currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur. PV Sindhu secured her place in the semi-finals of the prestigious World Tour Super 1000 tournament after her quarterfinal clash against Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. Sindhu dominated the first game 21-11, but the match ended early when Yamaguchi withdrew due to a knee injury, allowing Sindhu to progress further in the competition.
This result extended Sindhus head-to-head advantage over world number three Yamaguchi to 15-12. The tournament marks Sindhus first appearance following her recent injury setback. In another quarterfinal, second seed Wang Jie of China is set to compete against sixth seed Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia. Sindhu will meet the winner of that encounter in the semi-finals.
