Imphal, Manipur, India: Indian boxing legend Mary Kom is once again in the news, not for her sporting achievements but due to a renewed public dispute with her former husband. Her recent remarks about their marriage sparked widespread debate, prompting a strong and detailed response from him.

After nearly two decades of marriage, Mary Kom and Karung Ankholer separated, with both sides now airing allegations publicly. The controversy escalated after Mary made sharp comments about his role during their marriage, leading Karung to issue a firm rebuttal and level counterclaims.

Karung denied accusations of excessive political spending, stating that Mary was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2016 and later encouraged him to consider politics. He said he never spent lavishly and added that her own political involvement came with pressure. He explained that during their marriage, he set aside his own ambitions to support Mary’s boxing career and managed household responsibilities while she was away for training and competitions.

Emphasizing that his actions were driven by love rather than money, Karung said he took care of their children and handled daily household duties, including cooking and transportation. He acknowledged that their divorce was completed through customary legal procedures but urged the public not to overlook his contributions, calling Mary’s recent remarks deeply hurtful.

Mary Kom, however, alleged that her former husband did not earn during their marriage and that she was the sole financial provider. She accused him of misusing her income, claimed her savings were nearly exhausted, and questioned the extent of his sacrifices, further intensifying the public dispute.
