Guguloth Soumya shines as East Bengal register dominant victory

The fourth-round fixture of the Indian Women's League 2025 took place on Tuesday, featuring a clash between East Bengal Women's Team and Sesa Football Academy. Telangana-based footballer Guguloth Soumya delivered an outstanding performance throughout the contest, helping East Bengal secure a commanding 9-0 win.

Representing both East Bengal and the Indian women's football setup, Guguloth Soumya played a decisive role in the match. She was in excellent form against Sesa Football Academy and consistently troubled the opposition defense. Along with Soumya, Fazila Iqaput also made a major impact by scoring multiple goals as East Bengal dominated proceedings.

In this fourth-round encounter, East Bengal asserted control from the early stages and never allowed the opponents to settle. Soumya found the net in the 6th, 54th, and 86th minutes, completing a hat trick. Fazila Iqaput struck four times, scoring in the 9th, 22nd, 25th, and 72nd minutes. Additional goals came from Sulajana Raul in the 18th minute and Resty Nanziri in the 40th minute.

The defending champions showcased their experience and attacking strength, leaving no room for a comeback. Early in the match, Sushmita created a scoring opportunity that was initially saved by the Sesa goalkeeper, but Soumya capitalized on the rebound near the penalty area to open the scoring. Shortly after, another goal followed, extending East Bengal’s lead.

After racing to a quick two-goal advantage, East Bengal continued to apply pressure. Sesa Football Academy struggled to contain the relentless attacks, and Fazila completed her hat trick within a brief spell. By halftime, East Bengal had already established a commanding 6-0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Soumya adding two more goals and Fazila contributing once again. The match ended in a comprehensive victory for East Bengal. With this performance, Soumya has now become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 11 goals.

Following three matches, East Bengal sit second in the points table with nine points. Neeta Football Academy lead the standings with ten points from four matches, recording three wins and one draw. East Bengal will face Neeta Football Academy in their next league fixture on Friday.
