Ugandan: Kenyan media outlets have reported the death of Dickson Ndiema, the individual accused of the deadly assault on Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei. Ndiema passed away on Monday night in the intensive care unit at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where he had been treated for injuries from the violent altercation that followed a land dispute.

Cheptegei, who had competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics marathon, was tragically killed last Thursday after being set on fire during a confrontation with Ndiema. The Kenyan Star and Nation newspapers reveal that Cheptegei suffered severe burns covering 80% of her body, while Ndiema sustained burns on over 30% of his.

Both individuals were treated at the same hospital. The Star reported that Ndiema, who had been accused of attacking Cheptegei with petrol and igniting it, succumbed to his injuries after the incident.

The International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach expressed deep sorrow over Cheptegei's death, stating, "Rebecca Cheptegei's tragic passing is a profound shock to us all. Her inspiring performance at the Paris 2024 marathon was a source of great pride and joy."
