Jemimah Rodrigues’s Tears Mark India’s World Cup Glory

Harmanpreet Gupta Breaks Down in Tears After India’s Thrilling Win Over Australia

Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India: It was an emotional evening for the Indian women’s cricket team as they stormed into the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, defeating Australia in a breathtaking semi-final clash at the Dr  DY Patil Sports Academy. The crowd erupted with chants of “Jai Ho Bharat!” as India sealed their place in the final.

The victory brought tears of joy to captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was seen crying uncontrollably in the dugout after embracing her teammates and coaches. Overwhelmed with pride and emotion, the skipper’s reaction quickly went viral, moving fans across the country.

Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues, who led the batting charge with a magnificent unbeaten century (127), expressed her gratitude by bowing down and kissing the ground before folding her hands toward the cheering audience. Her partner, Amanjot Kaur, and the rest of the Indian squad joined in the on-field celebrations as India scripted another golden chapter in women’s cricket.

Australia, after opting to bat first, posted a challenging total of 338 runs in 49.5 overs. Phoebe Litchfield stood tall with a stellar 119, while Ellyse Perry added 77 and Ashleigh Gardner contributed a quickfire 63 off 45 balls. Indian bowler Kranthi Goud made early inroads by dismissing captain Alyssa Healy for just five.

Chasing 339, India suffered early setbacks as openers Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) fell cheaply. But a remarkable partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur (89) turned the game around. Cameos from Deepti Sharma (24 off 17), Richa Ghosh (26 off 16), and Amanjot Kaur (15 off 8) sealed the deal for India, who reached 341/5 in 48.3 overs, winning by five wickets.

With this victory, India qualified for the ODI World Cup final for the third time, setting up an exciting clash against South Africa this Sunday — once again at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
