GHMC to Expand as Telangana Cabinet Approves Merger of 27 ORR Municipalities Now

Hyderabad, Telangana, India: The Telangana government has given its approval for a major expansion of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). During the latest cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, the state finalized several key administrative decisions.
One of the major resolutions includes incorporating 27 municipalities located around the Outer Ring Road (ORR) into the GHMC limits. The areas set to be integrated include Pedda Amberpet, Jalpally, Turkayanjal, Shamshabad, Manikonda, Narsingi, Adibhatla, Dammaiguda, Tukkuguda, Medchal, Nagaram, Pocharam, Ghatkesar, Gundlapochampally, Tumkunta, Kompally, Ameenpur, Badangpet, Bandlaguda, Jillelaguda, Meerpet, Tellapur, Peerzadiguda, Jawahar Nagar, Boduppal, Nizampet, Dundigal and Bollaram.
Along with the GHMC expansion, the cabinet also agreed to establish a third electricity distribution company (DISCOM). All agricultural power connections and lift irrigation projects will be brought under this newly formed DISCOM. Additionally, the government sanctioned the procurement of 3,000 MW of solar power to strengthen the state’s energy resources.
