Karnataka to Introduce 4% Muslim Quota in Government Contracts

Karnataka Muslim quota

The Karnataka government is planning to introduce a 4% reservation for Muslims in government contracts by amending the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act. The draft legislation will be presented to the Siddaramaiah-led cabinet on March 5 before being moved to the assembly. The amendment will allow government contracts and tenders up to Rs 1 crore to reserve a share for Muslims, similar to SC and ST categories. The BJP criticized the move, accusing the Congress of minority appeasement. Congress defended the decision, saying it was for socially disempowered minorities like Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Buddhists.
