Cyclone Horacio Forms in Indian Ocean; IMD Rain Alert for AP Telangana
A Severe Cyclonic Storm named Horacio has developed over the Indian Ocean, raising concerns about potential weather disturbances across parts of India. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that the cyclone is not expected to make landfall or directly impact the Indian mainland.
According to meteorological experts, Cyclone Horacio is considered one of the strongest systems formed this year, with wind speeds reportedly reaching up to 260 kmph over open waters. Despite its intensity, current projections indicate that the system will remain away from the Indian coast.
Rain Alert Across Andhra Pradesh
Meanwhile, rainfall activity continues across Andhra Pradesh due to prevailing low-pressure systems and atmospheric troughs. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued warnings for several districts.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated locations in Srikakulam, Konaseema, Eluru, Krishna, Guntur, and Bapatla districts. Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecast in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, including East and West Godavari districts.
Telangana Under Yellow Alert
In Telangana, rainfall activity has already been recorded in multiple districts. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has indicated that moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected to continue.
A yellow alert has been issued for Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts as a precautionary measure. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
While Cyclone Horacio remains a powerful system over the Indian Ocean, officials have reassured that there is no immediate threat to India. However, localized rainfall activity is expected to persist across parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next 24 hours.
