Dallas, Texas, USA: India Bazaar and INDIACO have raised $25,000 for flood relief in Nepal through a fundraising campaign supported by customers, employees and the company across 16 store locations in the United States.

The Nepal Flood Relief initiative was launched on August 27 at India Bazaar locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Austin, Chicago and Atlanta. Customers were able to contribute at checkout, with donations starting from $1.

The campaign gained significant support during its initial days, raising more than $11,000 within the first three days. India Bazaar transferred the first $10,000 to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund on September 1, followed by a second transfer of 15,000USD on September 8.

The total contribution of 25,000 USD, equivalent to approximately NPR 3.817 million, included donations from customers and employees, along with funds contributed by the IB Group of Companies. India Bazaar said that 100 percent of the customer contributions collected through the campaign were transferred to the relief fund.

Following the fundraising campaign, representatives of India Bazaar and INDIACO visited the Consulate General of Nepal in Dallas for a symbolic presentation of a $25,000 check representing the total contribution.

The fundraising effort came as Nepal continued to respond to severe flooding that began on August 26 along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors. The floods caused extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other infrastructure in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and several other districts.

Nepalese authorities continued search, rescue and relief operations into September following the disaster.

According to Nepal’s health authorities, the flooding followed an ice and rock avalanche and the temporary damming of the Lhende Khola north of the Nepal-China border. The event triggered a sudden surge of water into the Bhote Koshi River.

The flooding affected communities across several districts, prompting the government to declare 15 municipalities as disaster crisis-affected areas.

As of September 12, authorities had recovered 1,386 bodies from eight districts affected by the floods, while 5,130 people remained unaccounted for, according to figures from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. More than 13,700 people had been rescued.

The $25,000 fundraising effort by India Bazaar, INDIACO, their employees and customers adds to ongoing relief efforts supporting communities affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
