A Kerala woman, Greeshma, has been sentenced to death for killing her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, in 2022. She poisoned him with an ayurvedic tonic laced with paraquat, a herbicide, to end their relationship after Raj refused to break up with her. The court found Greeshma guilty based on circumstantial, digital, and scientific evidence. Despite Greeshma's plea for leniency citing her academic record and lack of a criminal history, the court ruled that the severity of the crime warranted the death penalty. The case also involved her uncle, who was convicted of evidence destruction. Greeshma is now the youngest woman to face capital punishment in Kerala.
