Another important step forward in lunar exploration. Russia and China want to realize the dream of man's permanent residence as soon as possible. It was decided to set up a nuclear power plant simultaneously with the intention that the required power generation through solar panels would not be possible. A joint operation has already been started for that. Construction is expected to be completed between 2033 and 2035. Yuri Borisov, head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, revealed that this ambitious project has already begun. But Yuri admits it's not as easy as it sounds. Otherwise, Russia's immense expertise in the field of nuclear space energy will be very useful for this project. The project we envisage will be a key step towards permanent human habitation on the Moon. Solar panels are not enough to meet future energy needs and demands, nuclear power is a viable alternative. So we have started this project after thinking well, he explained.
But setting up a nuclear power plant on the moon is not as easy as it seems. Yuri revealed that an action plan has already been prepared for this. In the first phase, efforts will be made to set up a nuclear plant on the moon in a fully automated manner without human intervention. For this, mainly robots are brought into the field and work is carried out with their help. Russia is planning to develop a nuclear-powered spacecraft named 'Space Tug Boat'. It consists of a massive nuclear reactor with high-power turbines. Materials needed to build a power station are sent to the moon. The vessel will clean up space debris etc. released during the construction process.
Russia and China are struggling to overcome many technical problems in building a nuclear power station on the moon. But one of the most difficult challenges is keeping a nuclear power plant cool all the time. Last year, Russia's ambitious Luna-25 mission to explore the Moon failed. The spacecraft lost control and exploded while approaching the South Pole. It is just recovering from that setback. But in the case of the nuclear power plant, he insisted that he should not back down.
It is in this sequence that the manned Jabil mission with China has immediately intensified efforts towards establishing a permanent station on the Moon. It is known that China, which aims to send the first astronaut to the moon by 2030, and America, which is observing all this, has accused Russia of setting up nuclear weapons in space as soon as possible. Vladimir Putin has denied the allegations. Opinions are also heard that this may not lead to a war of space dominance between the superpowers.
