Neha Singh Controversy: Galgotias University Professor Faces Robodog Row

Neha Singh

Professor Neha Singh, whose remarks regarding a robotic dog showcased by Galgotias University during the Global AI Impact Summit in New Delhi gained widespread attention online, has now updated her LinkedIn profile to display the status “Open to Work.”

The issue began when Singh, who teaches communications at the Greater Noida-based institution, informed state-run broadcaster DD News that the robotic dog displayed at the university’s stall, named Orion, had been "developed by the Centre of Excellence at Galgotias University."

Soon after the interview aired, viewers pointed out that the machine resembled the Unitree Go2, a commercially sold four-legged robotic device produced by China's Unitree Robotics. This robot is commonly used in academic and research institutions worldwide. Following the controversy, organisers of the AI Impact Summit instructed Galgotias University to withdraw the exhibit on Wednesday.

In an official statement expressing regret, the university attributed the matter to Singh, describing her as "one of our representatives managing the pavilion." The statement added that she was "not fully informed" and "did not have authorisation to address the media."

Who Is Neha Singh?

As per details available on her LinkedIn profile, Singh has been associated with Galgotias University for more than two years in the role of Assistant Professor. Before joining the university in November 2023, she was employed at Sharda University.

She completed her Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree in Business and Commerce from the University of Allahabad in 2005. Later, she pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore.

Her LinkedIn profile highlights her primary skills as verbal communication, vocabulary development, public speaking, and written expression. Her biography also notes a strong interest in organising events, managing teams, and building interactive, motivating, and performance-oriented educational settings.

Neha Singh's Response To The Controversy

According to PTI, Neha Singh clarified that the confusion surrounding the robotic dog arose due to a lack of clear communication.

She stated that the situation developed because certain aspects were not conveyed precisely and the intended message may not have been properly interpreted.

Singh stressed that the university never asserted that it had built the robot. She explained that the institution introduced the robotic device to students with the objective of inspiring them to innovate and develop improved technologies independently. She further added that Galgotias University would continue offering students exposure to advanced AI tools and systems.

Subsequently, the university clarified that Singh was unaware of the technical background of the product and, in her eagerness during the media interaction, shared information that was not factually accurate.

In its apology, the university reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining academic honesty, transparency, and responsible presentation of its initiatives. It also mentioned that, acknowledging the concerns raised by the event organisers, the university had vacated the exhibition space.
