Shocking Team India Selection for 1st Test Sparks Social Media Outrage
Kolkata, West Bengal, India: The Indian cricket team’s surprising decision to leave out B Sai Sudharsan from the first Test against South Africa has ignited widespread debate on social media.
Despite scoring 87 and 39 in his previous Test appearance, Sai Sudharsan was not included in the playing XI for the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, which begins this Friday. Dhruv Jurel replaced him as the team, led by captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, opted for a side focused on bowling strength. India’s lineup includes four spinners and two pacers, along with two specialist wicketkeeper-batters, a combination that has drawn strong reactions online.
Sai Sudharsan has been considered a future cornerstone for India at the No. 3 batting position following Cheteshwar Pujara’s departure. However, the team management appears to be losing confidence in the young left-handed batter.
Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh criticized the selection, tweeting: "Why would you drop Sai Sudharsan? Makes no sense whatsoever." He added: "The No. 3 spot in a Test lineup is crucial, yet India keeps changing without a clear plan. Sai Sudharsan deserved these opportunities. Four spinners aren’t necessary, even on turning tracks."
At the toss, captain Shubman Gill did not provide a reason for the exclusion. He said: "I think the only toss I hope to win is in the WTC finals. The surface looks promising, and we hope to get some early movement. Our dressing room is fantastic, and this team is hungry to perform each time we step onto the field."
He continued, "These Tests are vital for us. The surface appears good initially and should offer turn as the match progresses. Rishabh is back in place of Reddy, and Axar returns to the XI as well."
