582 Passengers Rescued From Stranded Mumbai Monorail After 4 Hours

Mumbai monorail accident

A technical snag left 582 passengers stranded on a monorail between Bhaktipark and Chembur stations on Tuesday evening. Despite heavy rain, authorities conducted a four-hour rescue operation using sky ladders, bringing all passengers down safely.

Twelve passengers who experienced suffocation were hospitalized, but their condition is now stable. The overcrowded train had stopped around 6:15 pm due to a power disruption.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that passenger safety is a top priority and ordered a high-level inquiry. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde noted the Harbour Line closure had increased monorail congestion and promised measures to prevent similar incidents.
