AI-171 Crash: Ahmedabad to London Flight Ends in Tragedy
Ahmedabad Plane Crash: AI-171 flight, which departed from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad International Airport en route to London, crashed with 242 passengers on board. A majority of them are reported to have died. As a result of the crash, the Ahmedabad International Airport has been temporarily closed, and operations are suspended until further notice. Among the passengers were 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian. Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the incident with Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, directing them to oversee the rescue operations in Ahmedabad.
DGCA Details and Rescue
Ram Mohan Naidu has departed for the crash site. The DGCA responded to the crash, stating that the flight was piloted by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who had 8,200 hours of flying experience under LTC. The co-pilot had 1,100 hours of experience. A hotline number 1800 5691 444 has been set up for inquiries related to the crash. Rescue operations are currently ongoing, and investigations will follow to determine whether the cause of the crash was due to pilot error or technical failure.
Vijay Rupani and Crash Impact
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s name appeared on the business class passenger list from Ahmedabad to London, and he reportedly had a boarding pass in his name. The aircraft was fully fueled at the time of the crash. Investigators will later determine whether the crash was caused by a technical fault or pilot mistake. Those seated in the tail area of the aircraft are believed to be at high risk of fatality.
