An Air India flight bound for Birmingham with 242 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport, in the Meghaninagar area. Thick plumes of smoke rose high above as fire consumed the shattered remains of the aircraft. Police and NDRF teams launched rescue operations, as visuals showed injured passengers being carried on stretchers.
