Andhra Pradesh Techie Dies in Kansas Flash Floods

Bapatla District, Andhra Pradesh, India: An Indian IT professional from Andhra Pradesh lost his life after his car was swept away by flash floodwaters in Kansas, USA. The victim has been identified as Doppalapudi Venkatesh (33), a native of Devarapalli village in Parchur mandal of Bapatla district.

According to reports, Venkatesh was travelling north from Houston on Saturday afternoon when heavy rainfall triggered severe flash flooding across south-central Kansas. Authorities said more than six inches of rain fell in a short period, causing dangerous flood conditions in several areas.

His vehicle became trapped and submerged near the South Oliver Road bridge in Wellington. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a person was trapped inside the vehicle. However, rescue efforts were delayed due to strong water currents and rapidly rising floodwaters.

Search teams, including drones and the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Unit, continued the operation before recovering Venkatesh's body on Sunday with assistance from local law enforcement agencies.

Venkatesh was residing in Nebraska and was employed as an IT professional in the United States on an H-1B visa.

Expressing deep condolences over the incident, the Consulate General of India in Houston said it is in constant contact with local authorities to complete the necessary legal formalities for the repatriation of his mortal remains to India. The consulate also conveyed its sympathies to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
